Let’s Plant Roots Together
Join us and support this once-in-a-generation campaign to redevelop the Jade/APANO Multicultural Space (JAMS) into a 5,000 square foot Cultural Center, public plaza, and permanent home for APANO! We are on the brink of a transformative opportunity that will curb displacement of the area and create a safe place for our community on the corner of 82nd Avenue and SE Division St. The Cultural Center will occupy the first floor of the new development, with affordable housing units on the floors above.
In our political climate of historic displacement and current unprecedented threats facing communities of color, our ROOTS TO RISE campaign comes at a critical time.
Our Goals
Gathering Space
The center will be a hub for Asian & Pacific Islanders, immigrants, refugees, and communities of color, serving as a resource for healing, organizing, civic engagement, leadership development and the arts.
Community Landmark
With the creation of the APANO Cultural Center, we will firmly root our communities in a place where we’ve long been so that we may rise and be a home for future generations. The site will be a visible landmark that anchors our diverse communities.
Protective Factors
We envision a safe, dynamic, intergenerational, and multicultural space that provides a bulwark against gentrification and addresses long-term revitalization of the neighborhood. The space will strengthen the character of this district, spur economic development without displacement, and provide protective factors against inequities.
